The drive from home to office may have become costlier, but the flight to London (or anywhere else in the world) is now cheaper. Notwithstanding the recent air turbine fuel price hike, air fares have come down drastically in the past decade. Here’s by how much:

Then: Delhi-London economy class return airfare was Rs 48,000 in 1998.

Now: The same trip now costs Rs 35,000, a drop of 27% in 10 years.

Then: If airfares keep falling at the same rate, a Delhi-London return trip may cost you Rs 25,550 in 2018.

While the entry of low-cost carriers has cut dometic airfares in recent years, international airfares have been stagnant or falling for long. No wonder some foreign destinations are cheaper than domestic ones.
