Scam mails
You must have come across scam emails and text messages informing you that you have won a lottery, which you can claim by providing your details and a small "transaction" fee.

So far, you might have been ignoring such scam messages. Now, you can report such scam offers to any of the 34 nodal agencies identified by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI ). These nodal agencies include the economic offence wings or cyber crime cells of the state police departments. The list of these nodal agencies is available on the RBI website.

"In order to sensitise the customers/general public in this regard and to protect them from becoming a victim of such offers, a list of nodal agencies in the different states for registering complaints in respect of fictitious offers/lottery winnings/offers of remittance of cheap funds from abroad, etc, has been compiled by the central bank," the RBI said in a notification.

Several unsuspecting investors have fallen victim to such online scams in the past. On several occasions, the central bank has issued notices and cautioned the public not to fall prey to such scams. In its latest initiative, the RBI is trying to create more awareness about online frauds by providing an easy platform to file complaints regarding such incidents. More complaints are expected to help the authorities take appropriate action to check such frauds and nab the culprits.
