There was a time when Micromax ruled the under Rs 15,000 smartphone market. But all this changed with Motorola re-entering the Indian market. The launch of Canvas Nitro marks Micromax's comeback, in some way.
The design of the Nitro looks much superior to the company's plastic budget offerings. It has a 5-inch 720p display long with three capacitive touch keys.
There is also a 5MP front-facing camera on the top. The back cover sports a soft leather finish and also features a 13MP camera with an LED flash. The phone has got a removable back cover and hidden below is the 2500mAh removable battery, two micro-sim card slots and a slot for the microSD card.
The display of the smartphone looks good in its price segment as the images and text, both appeared crisp. The sunlight visibility was about average. Moreover, the touch response was good, without much lag. This phone runs on Android 4.4 KitKat with a software tweak including feature such as 'Quick Look' feed.
There is also a 'Smart Alerts' feature that offer colour coded band for different notifications on the lock screen itself. The camera performance of the 13MP snapper was about average. The sound output of the phone was decent. On the performance front, it does a decent job with daily work such as fetching emails, web browsing, social networking, camera, etc. It is powered by 1.7Ghz Mediatek octa-core processor and is paired with 2GB of RA M.
