BOSE SOUNDLINK AIR
Price: Rs 22,388
Rating: 5/5One of the next big thrusts in the world of technology will be to rid the world of wires. Wireless is already becoming a key feature in most devices as no one wants to be tethered to any one place.
One of the pioneers in wireless technology has been Apple with its AirPlay technology that lets you stream media wirelessly across the house from and to multiple devices. Though a bit late off the blocks,
Bose has finally launched an AirPlay compatible device in the Soundlink Air digital music system.
The device is compact and not larger than the regular iPod docks. It takes about 20 minutes to set up the system as you have to connect it to a computer and download the AirPlay software to your Wi-Fi network and log the device in. Once that is done all you have to do is click on the AirPlay button iTunes to start streaming music to it.
That sound output is stunning. And it is not just clarity, for the device is loud-louder than what you would associate with a device slightly bigger than a closed laptop. It has good bass and the sound is crystal clear even though you are playing wirelessly.
The sound is as good as the one on the
Bose SoundDock, though here you have the added advantage of being able to use the use iPhone or iPad even as you are streaming music from it. There is a remote that lets you do the basic control as well as shift songs within the playlist that is open. This is why Soundlink Air makes more sense than a dock.
For a change, we wouldn't call this Bose device overpriced, as it is catering to Apple devices which are by no means cheap. So the Soundlink Air is good value for money. You will, however, have to spend an additional Rs 6,638 if you want to buy a Lithium-ion battery that will free this device from its ugly large power adapter.
BAG IT OR JUNK IT?A good reason to go wireless.
