Philippe Guillemot, Chairman and CEO of Areva, T&D, a global power transmission and distribution giant, spoke to BT’s Rahul Sachitanand. Excerpts:

Why have you invested in new factories in India?
When you look at power generation in India, it is 140 gigawatts (GW) today and it is expected to be close to 800 GW by 2032. For every euro invested in power generation, you have to invest one in T&D. We expect to double our India revenues by 2010.

What are you doing to tap this potential?
We have been in India for over 70 years, so we have a long-established connect with a local management team. Three years ago, we decided to reshape our business by locally manufacturing products for the Indian market, rather than import them. Areva T&D has opened eight new factories in three locations for this purpose.
