BSE Sensex
closed lower on Friday amid weak global markets and worries over the progress of monsoon.
BSE Sensex opened at 17,275.20 and struggled throughout the session, ending at 17,158.44, down 120.41 points. During Friday's trade, BSE Sensex touched the day's low of 17,129.69.
In Friday's trade, banking, capital goods and realty stocks saw the most selling pressure.
Among the BSE Sensex stocks, just six stocks closed in the positive with
TCS and Bajaj Auto gaining between 1.5 per cent and 2 per cent.
Among the major BSE Sensex stocks, Dr Reddy's, down 3 per cent, and BHEL and Sterlite Ind, both off around 1.5 per cent, were among the major losers.
The market breadth on the BSE was negative with 1165 stocks advancing vs 1659 losers.
Most Asian markets ended lower and European markets were trading lower. The Wall Street was also poised to open lower.
