In 2015-16, around 2.06 crore people filed returns online which is an increase of 26.12% over the last year, when 1.63 crore returns were e-filed. The peak filing rate in the F.Y. 2015-16 touched 3,475 returns per minute as compared to 2,901 returns per minute in the F.Y. 2014-15.
Moreover, earlier after filing the return online you needed to post acknowledgment separately to the income tax office. Now under new provisions you no more need to post ITR V if Aadhar number is provided in ITR form. This has proved to be a big relief as many people used to forget to post the acknowledgment form to the income tax department. The data put out by the finance ministry says this year 32.95 lakh e-returns have been verified through electronic verification code. Use of EVC has dramatically reduced the time taken for processing of e-filed returns this year.
