GoAir, the Wadia Group-promoted budget carrier, announced on Wednesday that Girish Nair had been appointed its Chief Commercial Officer.

Nair, who had already taken charge a fortnight back, earlier worked with Jet Airways and also with the Bangalore International Airport, where he was Assistant Vice President, Head of Marketing and Aviation Contracts before he quit to join GoAir.

GoAir did not have a chief commercial officer until now. Suresh Sundaram, Vice President, Commercial Operations, filled in for the position.

"I'm confident that Girish Nair will provide GoAir with great leadership and his expertise will help us grow," said Giorgio De Roni, CEO, GoAir.

Nair, who has a Master's degree in Marketing and Aviation Management, has about 18 years of professional experience in varied sectors spanning media, information technology and aviation. In aviation, he has held senior positions in departments like revenue management and development of international businesses.

GoAir has 750 weekly flights to various Indian cities and was recently in the news when it appointed investment bank JP Morgan to find it a strategic partner after the government allowed foreign carriers to pick stake in Indian airline companies in September 2012. The budget carrier has a market share of 7.5 per cent.
