No records are beyond the reach of Little Master Sachin Tendulkar, who became the most highly insured
cricketer in the fourth edition of the
Indian Premier League.
National Insurance Company has provided a cover of Rs 44 crore to Tendulkar, who plays for
Mumbai Indians.
Not far behind him is Indian captain
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has been given an accident cover of Rs 34 crore by Oriental Insurance.
Last year, Tendulkar and Dhoni were given personal accident covers worth Rs 12 crore and Rs 10 crore, respectively.
Personal accident covers to players are three times the fees they are receiving from their team owners. The insurance covers players against personal accident, medical emergencies, loss of baggage and travel risk.
Meanwhile, Oriental Insurance has provided insurance cover to five IPL franchisee teams-Kochi Tuskers Kerala (Rs 160 crore), Chennai Super Kings (Rs 136 crore), Pune Warriors (Rs 122 crore), Rajasthan Royals (Rs 93.7 crore) and Deccan Chargers (Rs 98 crore).
