Tata Motors sales down 7 per cent in April, Nano sales slump

Tata Motors on Tuesday reported a decline of 7 per cent in its total sales including exports in April which stood at 60,086 units from 64,383 units sold in the corresponding period of last year.

Tata Motors has reported a decline of 7 per cent in its total sales including exports in April which stood at 60,086 units from 64,383 units sold in the corresponding period of last year.

The company's domestic sales including commercial and passenger vehicles for the period under review declined 5 per cent at 57,305 units from 60,125 units sold in the corresponding period of last year.

Exports-wise, the company reported a decline of 35 per cent in the month under review at 2,781 units as compared to 4,258 units shipped out in April 2011.



According to the company, sales of its commercial vehicles segment last month declined by six per cent at 34,647 units compared to 36,738 vehicles sold in April last year.

LCV (light commercial vehicle) sales stood at 24,818 units, a growth of 9 per cent, as compared to 22,802 units sold in the corresponding period of last year.

"M&HCV (medium and heavy commercial vehicle) sales stood at 9,829, lower by 29 per cent, compared to 13,936 vehicles sold in April, last year," the company said in a statement.

In terms of passenger vehicles sales the auto major reported a total sale and distribution offtake of 23,658 units in April, down 7 per cent from 25,436 units sold in corresponding month of last year.

"Sales of Tata passenger vehicles for April 2012 are at 22,658, lower by 3 per cent, compared to 23,387 sold in April last year," the statement said.

Sales of the company's entry-level hatchback car Nano declined by 20 per cent at 8,028 units compared to 10,012 units sold in April last year.

The Indica range sales stood at 6,913 units, up by 63 per cent from 4,250 units sold in April, last year.

"The Indigo range recorded sales of 3,669, lower by 31 per cent, over 5,282, sold in April last year."

Sales of Sumo, Safari, Aria and Venture range grew by 5 per cent in the month under review at 4,048 units from 3,843 units sold in April, last year.

"Jaguar Land Rover sales in India continued their upward trend," the company said.
