Toshiba said its CEO Hisao Tanaka will step down today after an independent investigation found he had been aware the company had been inflating its profits over a number of years.
The flagship smartphone would be available in Japan around the middle of the year.
Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai targeted an operating profit of at least 500 billion yen ($4.20 billion) for 2017/18. He also did not rule out an exit from smartphones and TVs.
Sony also forecast a preliminary full-year net loss of 170 billion yen, narrower than its October forecast for a net loss of 230 billion yen for the year.
The company has struggled to gain market share in high-end smartphones, lagging far behind Apple and Samsung Electronics.
Sony Pictures Entertainment's recent box office hits include "The Amazing Spider-Man", while its popular television production titles include "Breaking Bad".
