Carmakers post higher sales in February

Major automakers continued to post higher monthly sales numbers, buoyed by a strong rebound in the domestic economy.

Major automakers continued to post higher monthly sales numbers, buoyed by a strong rebound in the domestic economy.

In February 2011, Maruti sold 1,01,543 units in the domestic market, up 19.8 per cent over corresponding month last year. Sales were up 19.4 per cent in A2 and 27 per cent in A3 segment. In C segment, company recorded a growth of 26.9 per cent.

In February 2011, Maruti Suzuki launched the Super Turbo Diesel SX4. During the month, company also launched the Luxury Sporty Kizashi sedan.

Auto-maker Tata Motors reported a 11.69 per cent increase in sales during February to 77,543 units from 69,427 units in the same month of 2010.

The homegrown firm's total passenger vehicles sales in the domestic market stood at 31,909 units in February, an 18.25 per cent increase from 26,985 units in the same month last year, the company said in a statement. Sales of the company's compact small car, the Nano, stood at 8,262 units sales during the month, a 101 per cent increase vis-a-vis the corresponding period of the previous year.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) reported a 5.25 per cent rise in its domestic sales in February at 32,629 units.

The company had sold 31,001 units in the domestic market in the corresponding period last year, HMIL said in a statement.

However, the company registered a 4.77 per cent decline in its total sales to 52,007 units from 54,610 units in the year-ago period, it added.

Auto-maker Mahindra & Mahindra reported 19.66 per cent jump in its total sales in February at 33,378 units.

The company had sold 27,894 units in the corresponding month of 2010, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) said in a statement.

In the domestic market, the company registered a rise of 20.27 per cent at 31,967 units during the period compared to 26,580 units in the year-ago period, it added.

Total sales of M&M utility vehicles, including Scorpio, Xylo, Bolero and Pick-Ups, stood at 14,288 units as against sales of 12,813 units in February 2010, up 11.51 per cent.
