Boeing is betting big on India – both in the civilian space and defence. Having lost its global leadership to Airbus in the past couple of years, the aviation major is looking at big opportunities in India. Salil Gupte, President, Boeing India & South Asia sees major openings in the Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) with “almost 3,000 aircraft coming to India over the next 20 years.” He added, “We are seeing Safran setting up an engine MRO here; we are also seeing component work being set up as well. Our focus has to be on delivering aeroplanes for our customers and building an ecosystem which includes not just an MRO but also pilot training.” Gupte said Boeing has already invested “hundreds of millions of dollars” in India and is looking forward to building a large, comprehensive aviation eco-system in the country.
