In a bold and controversial statement, senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram has reignited debate over one of India’s most painful chapters — Operation Blue Star. Chidambaram called the 1984 military action to reclaim the Golden Temple “the wrong way,” saying former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi paid with her life for that decision. His remarks have triggered sharp political reactions — with Congress calling them unfortunate, while BJP and AAP accuse the party of trying to rewrite history. The former Home Minister also claimed the decision was not Indira Gandhi’s alone but a collective call involving the Army, police, and intelligence agencies. The controversy comes soon after his admission about UPA’s inaction post 26/11 attacks, adding to Congress’s internal unease.
