Nearly a month after violent protests linked to the CJP stir, police forces in Delhi and Bihar have placed their versions before the Supreme Court over the alleged use of excessive force. In its affidavit, Delhi Police defended its actions, saying protests that began at Jantar Mantar turned violent and personnel used minimum required force. Police also alleged that anti-social elements and history-sheeters joined the protesters. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju backed the Delhi Police response, claiming there were no serious injuries. In Bihar’s Siwan, police said an AK-47-wielding constable fired four rounds in the air after being surrounded by a mob. The Supreme Court is considering an independent committee to probe the allegations.
