India Today's Apoorva J is on the ground in Tirupati, reporting live on the unfolding controversy surrounding the alleged use of pig and beef fat in the temple's renowned Prasadam. This shocking revelation has ignited widespread outrage across the nation, with many devotees expressing their anger and disbelief. The controversy, originating from the Tirupati Tirumala Temple in Andhra Pradesh, has significant implications, prompting Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to announce a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising senior officers to probe the allegations. The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has responded defiantly, calling for a thorough inquiry while accusing Naidu of exploiting the situation for political gain and attempting to divert attention from his administration's shortcomings. In related developments, the Health Ministry, through the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), has issued a show cause notice to AR Dairy, one of the suppliers involved in the Tirumala laddu controversy. Additionally, the former chairman of the Tirupati Trust has approached the Supreme Court, seeking the establishment of an independent committee led by a retired apex court judge to investigate the claims of animal fat in the ghee used for Prasadam. This ongoing controversy continues to raise serious questions about the integrity of the temple's offerings and governance.
