The Madhya Pradesh government has suspended the licence of a liquor factory of Som Distilleries for 20 days following a raid by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) that resulted in the rescue of 58 child labourers. The raid, led by NCPCR national president Priyank Kanoongo, rescued 39 boys and 19 girls working under illegal conditions at the distillery in Raisen district near capital Bhopal. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday emphasised the state's firm stance against crime and commitment to justice. The state government has already taken disciplinary action against four excise officers for their negligence in this case. Som Distilleries has meanwhile clarified that the action taken was not against the listed entity but a privately held associate company.
