Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the National PM Vishwakarma Programme in Maharashtra, highlighted the numerous initiatives taken by both the Central and Maharashtra state governments to support farmers. He emphasized that through the PM Kisan Nidhi scheme, the Central Government sends ₹6,000 to farmers annually, and the Maharashtra Government adds another ₹6,000, providing a total of ₹12,000 yearly to the state's farmers. Additionally, the Prime Minister spoke about the introduction of crop insurance for just ₹1 to protect farmers from losses due to crop failure. He praised Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s government for waiving electricity bills for farmers, making their electricity charges effectively zero. Modi expressed concern over the delays in past agricultural reforms caused by previous governments, but assured that efforts to improve farmers' livelihoods are back on track. He also mentioned a significant reduction in the export tax on onions from 40% to 20%, easing the burden on farmers. These initiatives aim to support farmers, increase their income, and provide them with the necessary resources for agricultural development in Maharashtra.
