In a recent exclusive interview with the India Today Group, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed concerns about potential changes to the constitution and criticized the Gandhi family's historical actions. Modi asserted that contrary to popular narratives, it was the Gandhi family who repeatedly tampered with the constitution. He cited examples such as Pandit Nehru’s first amendment that restricted freedom of speech, Indira Gandhi's imposition of Emergency, and Rajiv Gandhi's reversal of the Shah Bano judgment. Modi emphasized that these actions undermined democracy and the constitution. He condemned Rahul Gandhi for disrespecting a cabinet decision publicly. Modi declared that as long as he is alive, he will safeguard the constitution's fundamental principles, including opposing reservations based on religion. He stressed that dividing the country on religious lines again is unacceptable and vowed to devote his life to educating the nation on these critical issues.
