In a recent exclusive interview with the India Today Group, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed serious allegations made by opposition parties regarding the integrity of the Election Commission (EC). When asked about delays in voting figures after the first phase of elections, Modi highlighted that the Election Commission had provided a detailed response in a letter, which he suggested should be debated by experts. PM Modi emphasized that it is not appropriate for him to comment directly on the EC's actions but noted the historical context where the Election Commission had single members for decades, some of whom later entered politics or became governors. He pointed out that current opposition figures had previously appointed EC members, implying political influence. Furthermore, Modi praised the independence and evolution of the EC, suggesting that its processes and India's election system are a marvel admired globally. He called for media houses, including Aaj Tak and India Today, to analyze and highlight the EC's journey and its significance in branding India positively on the international stage. Modi humorously proposed inviting global media and offering them a close view of India's robust election process, showcasing it as a strength of the nation.
