Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar informed the House about the recovery of a wad of currency notes from seat number 222, currently allotted to Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who represents Telangana. Announcing the matter, Dhankhar stated, “During the routine anti-sabotage check of the chamber after the House adjourned yesterday, security officials discovered a wad of currency notes at seat number 222, allotted to Abhishek Manu Singhvi. The matter was brought to my notice, and I ensured an investigation was initiated, which is now underway.” Reacting to the incident on social media platform X, Singhvi posted a video expressing his astonishment. He said, “This is the first time I’m hearing about it. I always carry just one ₹500 note to the Rajya Sabha. Yesterday, I entered the House at 12:57 pm, and it adjourned at 1 pm. I then sat in the canteen with Ayodhya Rami Reddy until 1:30 pm before leaving Parliament. It’s bizarre that such matters are being politicized. There should indeed be an inquiry to determine how anyone can place something at a member’s seat. Perhaps MPs should be given lockable seats with keys to avoid such baseless allegations.”
