Amit Shah’s UCC 2029 Deadline: Why NDA Allies Are Divided Over Uniform Civil Code

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has set a clear deadline for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), saying it will be implemented in all 21 BJP-NDA ruled states before the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. But the BJP’s push for a common civil code is already facing questions from within the NDA, with differences emerging among key allies. JD(U) general secretary Shyam Rajak has opposed the implementation of UCC in Bihar, while national working president Sanjay Jha is set to meet Amit Shah to present the party’s position. LJP-RV chief and Union Minister Chirag Paswan has also called for wider consultation and demanded that the UCC draft be made public before his party takes a final stand.
