India Today’s Geeta Mohan spoke with American economist Jeffrey Sachs on the Greenland controversy and the muted global response to US President Donald Trump’s remarks. Sachs said many countries are reluctant to speak out, fearing they could be targeted next. He described Europe as deeply dependent on the US for security, calling it ironic that Washington now poses a greater threat than Russia. Sachs said Trump’s comments about taking over Greenland, a Danish territory, violate international law. While China, Russia, Brazil and Mexico have voiced strong opposition, Sachs noted that many world leaders are choosing silence to avoid provoking the United States.
