Akshaya Tritiya, one of the
biggest gold buying festivals of the country, will spread
more cheer on Tuesday as India Post is offering a 6 per cent discount on gold coins across its 31 designated post offices in New Delhi.
"You are entitled to a flat discount on the purchase of gold coins of any denomination. The coins are available in denominations of 0.5, 1, 5, 8, 10, 20 and 50 gm of 24 carat with 99.99 per cent purity," the Ministry of Communications and IT had said in a statement on Monday.
Currently,
10 gram of gold is priced at Rs 28,000, compared to Rs 22,000 during the like period of the previous year.
The offer is valid for two days - April 23 and 24 - and gold coins will be made available at post offices, including those at Civil Lines, Connaught Place, Greater Kailash, Hauz Khas, Lajpat Nagar and Rohini Sec-7 among the 31 designated post offices in Delhi.
Akshaya Tritiya is considered as one of the most auspicious days of the year by Hindus. It is also known as Akha Teej. Buying gold is an important aspect of the day and is a part of worshipping Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth.
India Post, in association with the World Gold Council and Reliance Money Infrastructure Limited, commenced the sale of gold coins manufactured by Valcambi, Switzerland, initially at a few post offices across the country in October 2008.
Today, the gold coins are available through more than 800 post offices across the country.
