Berger Paints plans two new plants in Assam

Berger Paints India on Monday said it was contemplating two new plants in North East.

"We are planning two units in Assam. One under Berger and another British Paints brands," Berger chairman Kuldip Singh Dhingra said in Kolkata on Monday after the AGM.

British Paints is a division of Berger.

Dhingra said they were yet to sign a pact for land with Assam government. "We will place the proposal with the board shortly." he said.

Berger Managing Director Abhijit Roy said total land will be around 12 acres and investment in the initial phase was expected to be around Rs 60 crore.

Dhingra said the company had received proposal from Russia to build a second plant. "We already have a plant there. We had been offered land at a very competitive rate. But we will go ahead when we will have adequate volume," he said.

Earlier in the day, the company reported a 34.52 per cent increase in consolidated net profit at Rs 77.3 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2015.

"Its net sales in the quarter under review stood at Rs 1,117.75 crore, an increase of 5.83 per cent compared with Rs 1,056.16 crore in the same quarter of the previous year", Berger Paints said in a filing to Bombay Stock Exchange.
