At the Adani_BTIndia@100 Summit, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, discussed the significance of Minimum Support Price (MSP) in Indian agriculture. He emphasized that while innovative strategies and advanced technology are crucial for the future of farming, MSP remains essential to safeguard farmers' livelihoods. Chouhan highlighted the need for a balanced approach, combining short-term measures with long-term planning to boost production and reduce costs. He praised the government's decision to set MSP by adding a 50% profit margin over the cost of production, a step that has provided security to farmers. However, he also pointed out that not all crops require MSP as market rates often exceed it, citing examples like basmati rice and certain varieties of wheat.
