Idea Cellular gets Unified Licence for seven circles
Idea Cellular has received Unified Licences for seven circles that had been quashed by the Supreme Court in February 2012.

A Unified Licence allows operators to offer a wide range of telecom of services.

In November 2012 auctions, Idea had won spectrum in these service areas.

"The company has signed on October 11, 2013, Unified License with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), in respect of its seven service areas namely Tamil Nadu, Orissa, West Bengal, Kolkata, Assam, North East and Jammu & Kashmir," the company said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The operative licences of these service areas were among the overall 122 licences of various companies quashed by the Supreme Court in its February 2, 2012 order in the 2G spectrum allocation case.

"The company thereafter bid and won the spectrum in respect of the said seven service areas in the auction held in November, 2012," the filing said.

In addition to the seven circles, the company got spectrum for Bihar circle also, which was unaffected by the Supreme Court order.
