Amazon India on Monday put out a letter by CEO Jeff Bezos on its website, which claimed that the company was the most-visited ecommerce site in India, ahead of its rivals Flipkart and Snapdeal.

According to this chart, Jabong had 20 million visitors till the month of October and Snapdeal saw a traffic of over 15 million.

"Just two and a half years from our launch, Amazon.in has become the most visited e-commerce site in India. This customer response continues to amaze and energize us," Bezos said in the letter, which was posted on the website and also sent to its customers.

"We have built a vibrant marketplace with tens of thousands of sellers offering everyday low prices on India's largest selection of over 30 million products and bringing alive our "Aur Dikhao" promise to customers," the letter said.

To mark the occasion, the e-commerce company also doled out a gift card of Rs 200 to all its customers who shop for at least Rs 500.

The e-commerce sector in India is booming and the three market leaders Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal are competing fiercely to grab the biggest share of this segment by offering discounts and sales from time to time.

However, so far Flipkart has maintained its lead and is the e-tailer with most sales in India, but the comScore data put out by Amazon indicates a threat to its leadership.

According to a recent Bank of America Merrill Lynch report, e-commerce market in India is expected to grow to $220 billion in terms of value of goods sold by 2025, up from an expected $11 billion this year.
