The rupee extended its gains against the US dollar in early trade on Wednesday, rising 22 paise to Rs 45.45 per dollar, amid a rally in domestic equity markets.In fairly active trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange, the domestic currency opened at 45.47/48 a dollar, against the overnight close of 45.67/68, and improved further to a high of 45.45 before falling marginally to 45.56/57 per dollar at 10.30 am.Forex dealers said persistent selling of dollar by banks and exporters, on the back of sustained capital inflows from foreign funds and a weak dollar overseas, helped the Indian currency maintain its upward march in the forex market.The US dollar fell by about one per cent against the euro in New York on Tuesday, after the Federal Reserve said it would provide additional accommodation if needed to support the economy.
