Rupee up 6 paise against dollar in early trade

The rupee appreciated by 6 paise to Rs 44.41 against the dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market in morning trade on Tuesday largely on weakness in the US currency in overseas markets.

However, some demand for the US currency and a weak trend in equity markets capped the rupee gains, dealers said.

The rupee had ended 4 paise lower at Rs 44.47/48 a dollar in the previous session.

Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange index Sensex fell by 36.77 points to 20,318.86 points in the opening trade.
