Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that during the entire coronavirus period, India achieved self-reliance for essential resources from medicines to vaccines. He said India's capability "acted as a protective shield for many countries". Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rishi Sunak met during the first day of the G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia. This is Sunak's second major international engagement after the United Nations' COP27 climate summit. Prime Minister Modi said that multilateral institutions such as the United Nations have been ineffective in tackling global crises such as the Russia-Ukraine war. Prime Minister Modi also said, while addressing the 17th G20 summit, that the world has high expectations from the grouping and that its relevance has increased further.
He also said the intergovernmental grouping should not encourage any restrictions on energy supply and ensure market stability. He also restated India’s commitment to clean energy and the environment while adding that half of the country’s electricity will be generated using renewable sources by 2030. The Prime Minister is attending the two-day summit in Bali and will take over the G20 Presidency from Indonesia. He is also likely to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo said during the G20 Summit's second working session on health, "Developing countries must be empowered as part of the solution. Gaps in health capacity must not be allowed. Developing countries need empowering partnerships, they must be part of the global health supply chain."

Bank Indonesia, Bank Negara Malaysia, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipnas, Monetary Authority of Singapore and Bank of Thailand have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cross-border payments at the ongoing G20 summit.
