'Akira' mints Rs 5.15 crore on its first day; fails to impress audience

Sonakshi Sinha's latest movie 'Akira' has mopped up Rs 5.15 crore net on the first day of its release. The film has garnered much limelight from the viewers as it claimed to be 'women-centric' film.

Directed by A R Murugadoss, the film stars Sonakshi Sinha as the protagonist and has Anurag Kashyap and Konkona Sen Sharma in vital roles. The movie is a college-centric drama where the actress depicts the role of a strong woman who does not tolerate any wrong or injustice.

Though the film has received a slow start on the first day, it is expected to pick u over the weekend. The September 2 'Bharat Bandh' could also be a reason for the film's poor business at the box office.

Akira has been met with drastically cold response as compared to Murugadoss's previous blockbusters like Ghajini and Holiday.

The film is co-produced by AR Murugadoss and Fox Star Studios.
