The Lunchbox, the highly acclaimed directorial debut of Ritesh Batra, held steady at its second weekend at the box office, collecting around Rs 5 crore nett.
The film, appreciated at several international festivals, including Toronto and Cannes, stars Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
Set in Mumbai, 'The Lunchbox' revolves around a housewife and soon-to-retire office worker. They begin to communicate with each other through letters sent via the lunchbox.
The film's first weekend business was around Rs 7 crore nett, showing a drop of just 28.5 per cent in collections in the second weekend.
'The Lunchbox' has managed to do well in Mumbai circle, with its box office collections from the region totalling Rs 6.50 crore nett in 10 days. The movie has collected Rs 3.75 crore nett in Delhi and over Rs 1.75 crore nett in Mysore.
According to Boxofficeindia.com analysts, the movie's performance in the Mysore circle was commendable as it outshone the bigger East Punjab circle.
'The Lunchbox' has been presented by filmmaker Karan Johar and co-produced by Anurag Kashyap and Guneet Monga, among others.
