Delta Plus variant is the growing cause of concern for India. While vaccines offer a very high level of protection against hospitalisation and the severity of the disease, their effectiveness with respect to the new variant is becoming a cause of concern for the people of India. Prof Saumitra Das, Director of the Indian Institute of Biomedical Genomics, on Thursday said that the possibility of the virus causing COVID-19 to mutate to an extent that it starts evading all vaccines is ‘very unlikely’. He added that more experimental evidence is needed to establish this. As of now, 40 infections from Delta Plus have been detected in India, with Maharashtra remaining the hotspot.
