Ever since Elon Musk bought Twitter in a much-publicised deal in October last year, the social media platform has been through a massive transformation. Musk is trying to turn Twitter, now called X, into the 'everything app' using which people can make payments, share their opinion, connect with others, and so on.
Twitter, before Musk's acquisition, used to be a social media platform that allowed users to express their opinion in limited words. But now, the platform lets you share long videos, write longer tweets, subscribe to selected handles, and so on. Recently, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino had confirmed that users will soon be able to make payments on X. And now, as per reports, X Premium subscribers might have the option of removing ads soon.
X premium, earlier called the Twitter Blue service that guaranteed a blue check mark and other benefits, might introduce different tiers soon. Researcher Aaron took to Twitter and analysed X app's code, which revealed that there are three new X Premium tiers - Basic, Standard, and Plus. Aaron, in his tweet, explains that Basic Premium users will see full ads on the platform while Standard users will see half ads. In addition to this, those who subscribe to the most expensive tier, the Premium Plus, will not see any ads on the platform.
Until now, there has been no confirmation from X regarding these premium subscription tiers. Hence, it is wise to wait for an official announcement to know what's really going to happen.
Before Musk's takeover, there was nothing like Twitter Blue subscription on the platform. Only eligible users used to get a blue tick on their handle and it was a way of verifying if the account belongs to the actual person or not. Twitter's Blue Tick, therefore, was a mark of authenticity that was held by a few people. When Musk took over Twitter, he stripped all users of the Blue Tick and converted it into a paid service, along with other benefits.
Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino had shared a video last month that talked about more features that are coming to X soon.
Sharing the video announcing the new featurse, Yaccarino wrote, "A hint of what's to come. Who's in?"
The two-minute-long video talked about various things that users can, and will be able to do on X. Apart from making payments, the video also showed the video calling feature that will soon be available on the platform. Until now, you can only connect with others through texts on X. But that, and a lot more, will change soon. Additionally, users will also be able to look up for jobs through X.
It was recently reported that X owner Elon Musk has hinted at the possibility of charging users to use X. The Twitter boss hinted that in order to use the app, users might incur a small monthly fee. Musk talked about the same during a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He added that the fee will be introduced in order to keep the bots on the platform in check. "It's the only way I can think of to combat vast armies of bots," he said as per a CBS News report.
