Hyundai has officially confirmed the Bayon name for India

On September 14, Hyundai Motor India announced Bayon as the name of its “upcoming intelligent SUV.” The company called it a new addition to its Indian SUV range and said more information would follow. It did not announce an exact launch date, price, variant list or technical specification.

The name comes from Bayonne in France’s Basque Country

Hyundai says “Bayon” draws inspiration from Bayonne, a city in the French Basque Country. That origin is confirmed. Claims about where the SUV will sit relative to the Venue and Creta, however, come from media reporting and are not stated in Hyundai’s name-release announcement.

Test vehicles reveal clues, not the final showroom design

Indian spy photographs show a test vehicle with split lighting, roof rails, prominent body cladding and parking sensors. A later cabin sighting showed a curved dual-display panel and a two-tone steering wheel. Camouflage and prototype equipment mean the production model may still differ.

The 1.5-litre petrol and CNG options remain reported expectations

Autocar reports that the India model is expected to use a 115hp 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with manual and CVT choices, plus a possible CNG version with an underbody tank. Hyundai’s official announcement confirms none of those powertrain details yet.

₹9–14 lakh and a festive launch are not official figures

Published estimates place the Bayon around ₹9–14 lakh and expect a festive-season introduction, but Hyundai had not confirmed either as of September 15. Buyers comparing EMIs should wait for ex-showroom prices, variants, certified efficiency, safety equipment and warranty terms from the company.
