Catch Business Today TV's Astha Aishwarya Oriel in an exclusive conversation with Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto. Bajaj Auto has launched the Freedom 125, the world’s first motorcycle to operate on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). This commuter bike, powered by a 125 cc engine, offers dual fuel capability—petrol and CNG—to significantly reduce operational costs. Priced between ₹95,000 and ₹1.10 lakh (ex-showroom), bookings have commenced today, starting with Gujarat and Maharashtra. The company plans to export to markets such as Egypt, Tanzania, Peru, Indonesia, and Bangladesh. Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto, discusses the impact of the Freedom 125 in the entry-level (100-125cc) segment and its export prospects. Designed for cost-conscious consumers, the Freedom 125 promises a 50% reduction in fuel expenses compared to similar models. It features a small petrol tank and a seamlessly integrated CNG cylinder, with a handlebar-mounted switch for fuel selection. The motorcycle's design includes separate filler nozzles for petrol (2-liter tank) and CNG (2 kg capacity), ensuring practicality and ease of use while maintaining a distinctive appearance.
