A Christian community delegation from Karnataka, led by Bengaluru Archbishop Peter Machado, met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and raised a set of long-pending demands. The delegation sought repeal of Karnataka’s anti-conversion law, a 1% exclusive reservation for Christians, nomination of a Christian representative to the Legislative Council and greater representation on government boards and corporations. Kharge assured the delegation that he would take up the issues with Karnataka government leaders. The repeal demand has triggered a fresh political clash, with the BJP criticising Congress over the issue, while the law itself was enacted under the previous BJP government.
