Elon Musk has sparked a fresh controversy over Starlink’s long-delayed entry into India. The billionaire has accused powerful oligarchs and vested business interests of trying to keep his satellite internet service out of the Indian market, calling the situation a “monopolistic chokehold.” Starlink has been seeking entry into India for years, but concerns around national security, data sovereignty, spectrum and fair competition have complicated its launch. The comments come as India Mobile Congress is underway in Delhi, where Starlink’s Vice President of Business Operations Lauren Dreher said the company has been working closely with Indian regulators and telecom operators and has built its operations around India’s security and data requirements.
