The Union Cabinet has approved the development of two major ropeway projects in Uttarakhand under the National Ropeways Development Programme – Parvatmala Pariyojana. A 12.9 km long ropeway from Sonprayag to Kedarnath will drastically reduce the pilgrimage travel time from 8-9 hours to just 36 minutes. Similarly, a 12.4 km long ropeway from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib has also been sanctioned to enhance accessibility for devotees. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the significant benefits of these projects, emphasizing increased convenience and better connectivity for pilgrims. With a seating capacity of 36 people per cabin, these ropeways aim to make the religious journeys safer, faster, and more efficient.
