Ashank Desai: Accountability Is Squarely On You' In Golf Just Like In Business

Ashant Desai, MD of Mastek, spoke at the 26th edition of BT Golf in Mumbai at Willingdon about the value of golf for corporate leaders. He emphasised that golf teaches accountability, stating, "Accountability is squarely on you. You can't blame anyone else for not doing well." Desai contrasted golf with other sports where external factors like pitch conditions or toss outcomes can be cited as reasons for poor performance. He highlighted that this principle of personal accountability directly applies to business, where leaders must take full responsibility for outcomes. Desai praised the India Today Group and Business Today for hosting the event for 26 consecutive years. He also mentioned that many business leaders, including Harsh Mariwala, are passionate golfers, and scheduling meetings on Saturdays can be challenging due to golf commitments. Desai acknowledged he might consider taking up the sport himself.
