National Aluminium Company (Nalco) will invest around ₹30,000 crore over the next five years to set up a new aluminium smelter and a coal-based power plant, Chairman and Managing Director Brijendra Pratap Singh said on August 28. Of the total outlay, nearly ₹18,000 crore has been earmarked for the proposed smelter in Odisha. Singh said the project would be funded through a mix of debt and internal accruals. The remaining ₹12,000 crore will go towards establishing a coal-based power plant, with Nalco currently holding talks with Coal India and NTPC for the same.
