Unrelenting rains and killer landslides are wreaking havoc across Nepal and North Bengal. The Dudia Iron Bridge in Darjeeling collapsed, killing several and cutting off vital links to Siliguri. With the Teesta River swelling beyond danger levels, towns like Nagrakata and Gairkata are inundated, and NH-10 — the lifeline to Sikkim — has been shut indefinitely. In Nepal, the Kankai River has breached its banks, while all 56 gates of the Koshi Barrage have been opened, releasing massive volumes downstream into Bihar. Landslides in Ilam have snapped key highways, isolating entire communities. Rescue teams, helicopters, and troops are on ground but harsh terrain is slowing relief efforts.
