On Wednesday, December 11, DMK MP Kanimozhi raised the issue of Hindustan Zinc’s tungsten mine in the Lok Sabha. She called on the Union Government to take immediate action, referencing the resolution passed by the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and a letter from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. The letter requests the withdrawal of the permission granted to Hindustan Zinc for setting up a tungsten mine in Madurai. On November 29, Chief Minister MK Stalin urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to instruct the Ministry of Mines to cancel the mining rights awarded to Hindustan Zinc Ltd for the Nayakkarpatti Tungsten block. The block, covering several villages, was awarded to Hindustan Zinc by the Union Ministry of Mines as part of Tranche IV in November 2024.
