At the AI India Impact Summit, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Chairperson of Biocon Group, called for India to build “biotech sovereignty embedded in AI.” She argued that the next global shift will be driven by the convergence of biological intelligence and artificial intelligence, reshaping healthcare, food security and sustainability. Emphasizing programmable biology, AI-driven drug discovery and smart biomanufacturing, she said India must own its biological data, AI models and translational platforms to ensure health security. Moving beyond being the “pharmacy of the world,” she urged India to become a global AI-native biotech innovation hub grounded in ethics and public interest.
