
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri outlined India’s approach to self-reliance and global partnerships at SEMICON India 2026. Misri said self-reliance does not mean producing everything within India’s borders, arguing that countries must identify areas where sovereign capabilities are essential while pursuing trusted partnerships elsewhere. He highlighted India’s engineering talent, large domestic market, policy momentum and semiconductor initiatives as key strengths. Misri also acknowledged India’s continued dependence on imported equipment and materials and stressed the importance of consistent policies and predictability.
