(Photo: Reuters)The Delhi government has asked the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology to block mobile applications of taxi-service providers like Uber and Ola in the national capital, a state government official told Reuters on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Delhi transport officials had asked Uber, the US-based taxi-hailing company, and its domestic rival Ola to cease operations if they wanted their applications of radio taxi licence - for permission to operate in the city - to be processed, letters seen by Reuters showed.
The government had ordered all unregistered web-based cab companies to halt operations nationwide in December after a female passenger reported she had been raped in the capital city by a driver contracted to Uber.
