Withdrawal shock
Starting October 1, 2026, SBI Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) account holders may have to pay more attention to their monthly cash withdrawals. The bank has revised charges, and withdrawals beyond the first four free transactions in a month will attract a ₹15 fee plus GST per transaction.

Free limit
The number four now becomes important for SBI BSBD customers. The first four cash withdrawals every month will continue to remain free, but crossing that limit could directly impact account holders who frequently depend on branch visits, ATMs or other withdrawal channels for accessing money.

Digital change
SBI has changed the way it counts free transactions for BSBD accounts. Earlier, digital transactions were excluded while calculating the four free withdrawals. Under the revised rule, this exclusion has been removed, meaning more types of transactions will now come under the monthly limit calculation.

Account basics
SBI’s Basic Savings Bank Deposit account was designed mainly to encourage saving among people who may not want the burden of minimum balance requirements. The account allows zero balance maintenance and provides a basic RuPay ATM-cum-debit card facility.

Banking rules
A BSBD account comes with specific conditions that customers need to know. SBI customers opening this account cannot hold another savings bank account with the bank. If they already have one, it must be closed within 30 days of opening the BSBD account.

Free benefits
Despite the revised withdrawal charge, several services remain free for SBI BSBD account holders. These include a basic RuPay ATM-cum-debit card without annual maintenance charges, electronic payment credits through NEFT/RTGS and certain government cheque-related deposits.
