Among the special tenures, 444-day deposits offered by several state-owned banks currently carry interest rates ranging from 6.45% to 6.75% for general citizens.

For investors considering smaller amounts, the difference in interest rates can translate into different maturity values. Based on quarterly compounding, a ₹20,000, ₹50,000 or ₹1 lakh deposit can earn varying amounts depending on the bank chosen.

Central Bank of India offers the highest rate

Central Bank of India currently offers the highest interest rate among the PSU banks covered, at 6.75% for its 444-day deposit. On a ₹20,000 investment, the approximate interest earned works out to ₹1,697, taking the maturity amount to around ₹21,697.

For a ₹50,000 deposit, the approximate interest earned would be ₹4,242, resulting in a maturity amount of about ₹54,242. A ₹1 lakh deposit could earn approximately ₹8,483, taking the maturity value to around ₹1.08 lakh.

PNB and Indian Overseas Bank offer 6.60%

Punjab National Bank (PNB) and Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) offer 6.60% on their respective 444-day deposits for general citizens.

At this rate, ₹20,000 would earn approximately ₹1,658 in interest, taking the maturity value to about ₹21,658. A ₹50,000 investment would grow to approximately ₹54,144, while ₹1 lakh would mature at around ₹1.08 lakh, with interest of approximately ₹8,289.

PNB's applicable rate is effective from June 1, 2026, while IOB's rate is effective from May 15, 2026.

Canara Bank offers 6.50%

Canara Bank offers a 6.50% interest rate on its 444-day FD for general citizens, with the applicable rate effective from March 17, 2026.

A ₹20,000 investment would earn approximately ₹1,632 in interest, resulting in a maturity value of around ₹21,632. For ₹50,000, the maturity amount would be approximately ₹54,080, while ₹1 lakh would grow to around ₹1.08 lakh.
