Around 1.2 lakh
jobs were generated across India in the first quarter of this fiscal, according to a report released by Assocham. This represents a nearly 20 per cent quarter-on-quarter dip in total job generation, a clear indication of a
slowdown in employment.
"This basically reinforces the picture that employers in India are turning very cautious in wake of the global economic slowdown which has also lead to a sharp decline in attrition levels at India Inc," said Mr D.S. Rawat, secretary general of ASSOCHAM while releasing the findings of the chamber's analysis.
The report titled "Job Trends Across Cities and Sectors" said that the Delhi and National Capital Region accounted for nearly one-fourth of the new jobs generated in the country in the first quarter.
The Assocham study tracked the data on a daily basis for vacancies posted by about 3,500 companies via job portals and advertisements in the national/regional dailies and the news journals for 56 cities and 32 sectors offering job opportunities.
Information technology, and information technology enabled services, education, banking, financial services and insurance and automobiles were listed among the top sectors which saw maximum job addition.
